Trust the baby to support him in what is best for him: this is the principle of an educational approach that is increasingly emulated. Inspired by the work of Hungarian pediatrician Emmi Pikler, this vision of the baby encourages the parent to observe and react, rather than stimulate and impose. The parent adapts to the baby and supports the development of his personality, rather than the other way around. This "gentle" method would be rewarded with great progress on the psychomotor level. These observations inspired Emmi Pikler to make revolutionary arrangements for the child's bedroom, to make it not a miniature adult bedroom, but a real field of exploration. Month after month, the topography of the place changes according to its growth and progress. This does not mean that it is necessary to acquire very expensive equipment: cushions, a mattress and some good ideas can do wonders! Rather than sophisticated toys, offer them accommodations that favor motor activities.

When he is awake, leave baby as little as possible out of his bed. Lying on his back, on a blanket, he enjoys playing with his fingers, turning his head towards the sounds. When he gets tired, offer him a rattle. Avoid the sitting position, which is less energizing for the child.
From 5 months
The child turns to the side and looks more closely at what is happening on the sides. Place within reach of his hand one or two colored objects that he will seek to catch (but do not give him immediately, a child grows up playing with difficulties). He then tries to turn around, and then finds himself on his stomach. Another vision of the world is then offered to him, when he looks up to see what is happening in front of him. Let it pass freely from one lying position to another, without trying to provoke them.
From 7 months
He sits alone, leans over to lie down. To support these movements, arrange a clear space in his room. At this age, the floor is the main playground: the less furniture in your room, the more space there will be for exploration. On the ground, how to offer the maximum amount of fun? The ideal is to cover part of the floor with a short pile carpet, washable and plain. The rest of the room can be smooth and washable (floating, vitrified parquet, linoleum). Place a firm cushion, a foam bolster covered with a colorful and attractive fabric: the child can lie down on it, learn to roll on it and use it for all kinds of games from his imagination.
From 10 months
Place a small mattress near the sofa that he will use to climb. The bar park takes all its interest at this age: when it spends little time at a time, and it has interesting objects, the child can enjoy this enclosure where he plays alone. When you are nearby, lower one of the uprights to allow it to climb outside. Keep your large boxes, which make great cabins (to customize by piercing them with windows). If you have a terrace or a garden, this is the time to also exploit this space: a V-shaped ladder placed on the side provides a good climbing game, the grass and its small inhabitants fascinate and make you want to gallop on all fours.
From 12 months
He walks ! It therefore moves more and more, and its activities take place more outside. He also needs more imitation toys: garage, dollhouse, etc. To store your toys, avoid the trunk: toys are attractive when they are tidy and visible. Nothing like low bookcases, the top of which reaches at the level of his head, to arrange the toys and books he needs. A tip to avoid weariness: change the place of the toys by inverting the contents of the shelves twice a month. The carpets then become superfluous and inconvenient to push the truck or the pram, remove them.
From 18 months
He gets out of his crib, begins to draw. It's time to go for the real bed. Before the age of 6, no mezzanine: the child must be able to get out and get into his bed easily. Some manufacturers offer progressive beds: first at the bottom, then on the mezzanine which can be raised as the child grows. Add a small desk or a table provided with two chairs which will allow to draw, to make plasticine, to make the dinette. For storing very small toys (Playmobil type), nothing like plastic storage cases: take them rather flat, so you can easily see the parts. Libraries of storage cubes also provide a practical and aesthetic solution.
