Want to try out the most daring color combinations? Today there are an infinite amount of shades and variations to customize your decor according to your tastes. However, the proliferation of shades or somewhat hazardous combinations can quickly lead to a decorative faux pas! So, before you start, read these basic rules!
Rule n ° 1: Never more than 3 colors
This is the rule which should not be waived to avoid the lack of taste: 3 colors per piece, not one more! We do not take into account non-colors such as white and black, which serve to underline and structure the room by shaping the volumes, or gray which is ultimately only a gradient halfway between these two values of based. If you want to decline 3 colors, choose two main maximum, the third is added in minor, through accessories for example. Patchwork, yes, but only in the blink of an eye via a textile choice (carpet, cushion or curtain for example).
Rule n ° 2: Opt for shades
It is one of the flagship trends in color combinations. Shade is a game of variations of tones around the same starting color. For example: sky blue + turquoise blue + petrol blue. The shades allow you to create progressive rhythms in the room, to emphasize certain details, such as moldings or a fireplace, and to play with light. There is nothing to prevent you from adding a distinct color to the touch to energize your decor.
Rule n ° 3: Balance cold color and warm color
The warm colors energize a room, create a warm and friendly atmosphere. The cold shades, they rest and soothe for a soft atmosphere. If you prefer a dominant of cold tones, consider adding a few touches of warm color to restore color harmony, and vice versa.
Rule n ° 4: Only one strong color per piece
By strong color, we must understand a flashy shade to which priority is reserved in the room. As easy as it is to mix a bright yellow and a beige, an electric blue and a pearl gray, as much two too bright shades tire the glance and are likely to tire you very quickly. We therefore put on a strong shade + a pale shade or the addition of white to highlight the chosen color.
Rule n ° 5: Take a real test
We can never say it enough, before you start, do a real paint test on a small area. You have the possibility in specialized stores to choose or order online a sample of the shade you want. You can also find color simulators that project the selected colors into your room for personalized projection. Do your real test on a support previously repainted with a coat of primer, which you will then place in the room to be repainted. The colors always appear lighter on large surfaces. Likewise, the exposure of the piece plays in the way the colors will stand out, take this into account!
